Empowering People With Disabilities
Independent Connection Inc. is a Center for Independent Living (CIL) based in Salina, Kansas, with a satellite office in Concordia, Kansas, that provides an array of independent living services to people with disabilities. Like all CILs, we are a consumer-controlled, community-based, cross-disability, non-residential private non-profit agency designed and mostly operated by individuals with disabilities.

Independent Connection works with people of all ages and disabilities to locate services and eliminate physical and philosophical barriers so that living independently is a reality for all.

Where and How We Serve You
Headquartered in Salina, Kansas with a satellite office in Concordia, Kansas, Independent Connection serves nine North Central Kansas counties, including Cloud, Dickinson, Ellsworth, Jewell, Lincoln, Mitchell, Ottawa, Republic and Saline.
Our process is simple: you contact us, we meet with you, we complete some paperwork, and you choose how involved we are.

Our History

1983
Independent Connection was established as the first state-funded Center for Independent Living (CIL) but operated as a program of OCCK, Inc.

2012
Independent Connection established as a separate 501(c)3 non-profit, non-residential corporation. We contracted for leadership while establishing the infrastructure needed to operate.

2019
Independent Connection moved to our current location.

2022
Independent Connection received a new grant establishing new partnerships and information sharing on health and wellness.

2023
Independent Connection became a Salina Area United Way Funded Partner.
Independent Connection joined the Kansas Youth Transition Network.

2024
Independent Connection was selected (for a second year) as a Salina Area United Way Funded Partner.

2025
Independent Connection expanded our community presence with a new satellite office in Concordia, Kansas.
Independent Connection Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit, community-based non-residential agency. Independent Connection is funded in part through Rehabilitation Services, the state vocational rehabilitation agency in Kansas. Grant funding was comprised of state general funds and federal funds. Federal funds are authorized under PL 105-220 VII Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended. Program Title: Independent Living – State Grants. CFDA/Subprogram No. 93.369. The contents and/or events of Independent Connection’s programs do not necessarily represent the policies of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and/or Kansas Department of Rehabilitation Services, and you should not assume endorsement by the State or Federal Government.
