36th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Celebration

July 26, 2026 marked 36 years since the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law. This historic civil rights law prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public.  The purpose of the law is to make sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.

On July 27th, we hosted a community celebration at the Smoky Hill Museum in Salina. During the event we awarded the disability awareness poster contest winners with gift cards and we presented the Accessibility Champion designation to Ardis Bryan with Project SEARCH Salina. Thank you to everyone who attended!

To view the poster entries, check out our Facebook page. For more information about the Accessibility Champion, click here.

Special thanks to…

  • The Smoky Hill Museum for offering us such a welcoming space and for displaying poster contest entries for museum patrons to view!
  • Bennington State Bank for sponsoring cash prizes for the poster contest winners.
